How It All Began

As the former Executive Director of the Medina County Unit of the American Cancer Society, Commissioner Pat Geissman knew of the struggles local charities encountered with fundraising each year. She felt the Commissioners could use their sphere of influence in the community to establish another source of funding to help support local charities.

In 1999, Pat took the Commissioner’s Charity Ball concept to her fellow Commissioners. The idea was to ask businesses that work with the county to be sponsors of the event which would include a sit down dinner, live band and dancing. The first Ball was the third Saturday of January, 2000 and has remained on that Saturday each year until 2020.

Pat has chaired the event every year raising more than 430,000 to date.
